Day 1 Cairo |
Arrive Cairo. Met by our representative and escorted through Cairo Passport and Customs formalities. Then you will be chauffered to your deluxe hotel and assisted with check-in. |
| Day 2 Cairo |
A scenic drive will take you to Memphis, the once-splendid capital of ancient Egypt. Here you will find the fallen colussus of Ramses II (that once guarded the Temple of Ptah) and another Sphinx, carved in alabaster. On to the necropolis of Sakkara, which contains tombs from almost every period of Egyptian history. Visit the Step Pyramid of Zoser, the oldest stone structure, and the temple complex. Visit an Oriental carpet factory on your way to the Great Pyramids and the majestic Sphinx. Visit the Valley Temple of Chephren and the Solar Boat Museum. An opportunity for a camel ride and many pictures of all the pyramids and the Sphinx. On your way back to the hotel, shop at the Bazaar. | Day 3 Cairo |
Your day begins with a tour of the Egyptian Museum, famous for its antiquities from Egypt's pharaonic period. Afternoon excursion to Old Cairo, visiting the very old Coptic churches and the oldest Jewish Synagogue of Ben Ezra. On to the famous Citadel of Saladin, the Alabaster Mosque and Khan El-Khalili Bazaar. | |
| Day 4 Cairo |
Start your day with a flight to Upper Egypt. Arrive Aswan. (Abu Simbel participants will fly from Cairo to Abu Simbel, then on to Aswan.) Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon your voyage begins by sailing on a felucca to see Elephantine Island, the , and the Botanical Gardens. Then visit the Aswan High Dam, Lake Nasser, the Philae Temple and the ancient quarry where Egyptian bulders once mined red granite. (Option: The Sound and Light Show at the spectacular Philae Temple.) Dinner at your hotel. | |
| Day 5 Luxor |
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Luxor. Travel by ferry across the Nile to the necropolis of Thebes. The Valley of the Kings holds the Pharaohs burials, including that of the famous boy-king - King Tut-Ankh-Amon. Next travel to the Valley of the Queens, where Queens tombs were discovered, including those of Queen Nefertari, and Queen Hatshepsut. Your final stop in this area is at the Colossi of Memnon. This afternoon is devoted entirely to touring the Temples of Karnak and Luxor. The Karnak Temple took over 1500 years to build and is considered the world's largest religious complex. Dinner.
